Scope - While most University level PM certificates cover either fundamental or advanced level project management training, this certificate covers three important levels: fundamental level, PMP (or CAPM) Exam Prep, and advanced tools.
Flexibility - After taking Project Management Essentials: Part 1 (or Project Management Essentials for Construction), take the remaining 6 courses in whichever order will benefit you the most.
Timing - Why tie yourself down to an arbitrary schedule? The courses for this certificate are offered multiple times in the year. Complete all course requirements in a short time period, or spread the courses over up to 3 years. Also, all courses take place during the week so you do not have to give up your evenings and weekends to attend.
Small class size - Rather than packing up to 40 participants in a lecture hall, and having to use separate break-out rooms for exercises, we keep our class size small so that each participant gets the attention they deserve.
Double dip - Only PDUs earned once a participant has passed the PMP exam may be applied towards the 60 PDUs required every 3 years to maintain their PMP designation. Participants who take the PMP Exam Prep course and pass the PMP exam early in the program, will be able apply PDUs from all remaining courses towards maintaining their designation. Most participants will be able to earn enough PDUs for their first three year PDU cycle, and be able to carry forward up to 20 PDUs for their next 3 year PDU cycle - all while earning their U of T Certificate in Applied Project Management!
No need to commit - While most certificates require you to commit to the entire certificate up front, with this certificate you are in control. Certificate courses may be taken “stand-alone” without a commitment to complete all course requirements. Once all required courses have been completed, you notify the University of Toronto who will then issue you the certificate.
Proven track record - The courses that make up the Certificate in Applied Project Management include some of the most popular and sought after project management courses available. The Project Management Essentials course, for example, is believed to be the longest continuously running project management course in Canada. These courses are taught by Project Management Professionals who not only have had a successful career as hands-on project managers, but are some of the highest rated project management trainers and consultants in Canada.
